Philanthropy |
One of the founding principles of Alpha Omicron Pi is to be of service to others-to bring into the world around us a spirit of love, not for self glory, but as an opportunity to give something back to our communities. Each AOPi chapter and it's members may choose to organize and participate in various fund-raising and hands on service events. Our sisters have fun while sharing their friendship and through community service. Through the years, the combined effort of over 115,000 members has made a marked difference in the lives of thousands. |
Alpha Omicron Pi's International Philanthropy supports Arthritis, Juvenile Arthritis and related diseases. Since 1967 when we adopted the Arthritis Foundation and Canadian Arthritis Society as our international philanthropy, over one million dollars has been raised by AOIIs to help researchers find a cure for this crippling disease that, so often, targets women as its victims. The Alpha Omicron Pi Foundation was established in 1977 as a non-profit organization to support the various philanthropies of the Fraternity. The AOII Foundation grants funds annually to support Arthritis Research for the purpose of finding the cause and a cure. In addition, the Foundation supports the American Juvenile Arthritis Organization with grants for family arthritis education and children's arthritis camps. Through the years,
the Alpha Omicron Pi Foundationhas been proud to provide research grants
which partially fund dozens of arthritis related projects. In 1998
the Arthritis Foundation awarded its prestigious Corporate Hero Award
to the AOII Foundation for its ongoing support of critical arthritis research
and efforts to educate AOII members about arthritis. We support Arthritis
Research because it is the number one most debilitating disease in women
and children; in which there is no cure. Since 1967, nearly 1.3 million
dollars in grants has been awarded to qualified researchers to find the
causes and cures for arthritis. |
